Why do birds sing? They have biological need to sing. It’s suppressed during the night, but when it get’s light, they burst into song! Much like the nightingale, it boasts a rich repertoire of more than 200 unique musical phrases—filled with trills and whistles—sing both day and night.

WHAT’S NEW

Interested in adding a new cat to your home?
Consider a Birman. They used to be called the Sacred Cat of Burma because they lived in temples with monks. They’re very quiet, medium in size with fluffy coats and deep blue eyes. They come in painted colors and always have four white feet.

In addition to Birman breeders, there are rescue groups that may have one for you! Attend a cat show where you can view one in person!

Did you wonder about the Birman coming from Burma and were you confused because you’d never heard of Birman cats but you had heard of Burmese? These are not spelling errors and there are Burmese cats as well as Birman but Burmese cats are completely dark (somewhat like milk chocolate) rather than Birman who are white with light points (such as lilac) to darker points (chocolate, seal).

OP ED

Please see that your dog or puppy has a personalized identification tag on his collar or harness. Mic or chipping is wonderful, but if you lose your dog at the park, on the beach, or on a trip or hike, the good Samaritan who finds it cannot read the chip. Please simply phone the number on the ID tag.

APRIL IS VOLUNTEER MONTH, THESE SHELTERS ALWAYS NEED YOUR SERVICE AND HELP:

Montgomery County Humane Society on South Stonestreet Avenue in Rockville
Montgomery County Animal Services Shelter on Muncaster Road in Gaithersburg
Animal Welfare of Montgomery County cat shelter on Park Avenue in Gaithersburg

If you can’t physically help them, you can always donate food items or collect used towels, blankets, and other items for bedding.

SMILES

If a cow doesn’t produce milk, is it a milk dud or an udder failure?
What do you call a collection of Ferrets? They are called a Business of Ferrets!
